Broadcom adds speed and reliability with Wi-Fi 7 chipsets
Broadcom unveiled the world’s first Wi-Fi 7 ecosystem solutions last week, a move that will “greatly improve the user experience by delivering reliable, low-latency communications and extended range.” Vijay Nagarajan, vice president, Wireless Connectivity Division at Broadcom said, “together with AFC, Wi-Fi 7 will now bring the ability to operate in 6 GHz bands both indoors and outdoors. Venues, office buildings, hospitals and other dense environments will all benefit from these improvements.”

Broadcom samples five Wi-Fi 7 chips with support for AFC
Last week, Broadcom announced the sampling of five Wi-Fi 7 chips for smartphones, residential and enterprise Wi-Fi access points. Broadcom’s chipset will further take advantage of unlicensed 6 GHz spectrum “with AFC supported in the new chips.” Chris Szymanski, director of product marketing and technology strategy for wireless communications and connectivity at Broadcom explained, “AFC is really important for IoT and the industrial internet.”

Broadcom tells ‘the ecosystem story’ of Wi-Fi 7 with chipset launch
Broadcom “further solidified its early-mover status” by announcing “the sample availability of a complete end-to-end chipset offering for the Wi-Fi 7 ecosystem.” The company’s chipset—which includes routers, residential gateways, enterprise access points and client devices—will provide higher throughput and faster speeds, further contributing to overall network efficiency and reducing congestion. “There can’t be a cart before a horse in the case of Wi-Fi,” said Vijay Nagarajan, vice president of marketing for the Wireless Communications and Connectivity Division at Broadcom. “For us to be able to tell the story of Wi-Fi 7, we needed the ecosystem story because it’s all about the congested network in our minds.”

6 GHz Wi-Fi picking up steam: Comcast, Orange, and Bouygues announce Wi-Fi 6E gateways
Adoption for 6 GHz Wi-Fi continues to skyrocket and will now be easily accessible to households in the US and France. Wi-Fi 6E deployments among service providers “picked up momentum this week" with “Comcast (US), Orange (France), and Bouygues (France) taking next steps to making 6 GHz Wi-Fi (aka Wi-Fi 6E) available to home broadband subscribers.” The companies’ latest Wi-Fi 6E technology will provide households with “gigabit speeds of the future” and improve capacity for connected devices.

How Fast Will Wi-Fi 7 Be?
Wi-Fi 7 is poised to more than double the speed of Wi-Fi 6 and 6E. Not only that, Wi-Fi 7’s access to the 6 GHz band will avoid congestion, “further enhancing” the next generation of wireless’ “ability to avoid interference.” Wi-Fi 7 is poised to “better serve a multi-user household and gain higher energy efficiency.”
